Causes of Death: A Case for Term Life InsuranceWe are very excited for this ASNY CE session being held on Thursday, December 13th. PRESENTERS Russell Pang, ASA, MAAA Anji Li, ASA REGISTER Registration deadline: December 11th, 2018 TARGET AUDIENCE: Actuarial professionals looking to learn more about mortality trends in the life insurance market. SESSION DETAILS / WHAT ATTENDEES WILL LEARN With the increasing access to data and capability to leverage it, actuaries have an opportunity to extend the traditional analysis of mortality in the life insurance industry. The presenters will provide insights into term insurance mortality using reinsurance and industry experience. The session will focus on analyzing the causes of death as a means to deepen the understanding of term mortality risk. We will discuss the data and methodology used for the analysis, along with results and findings. Among the topics covered include preferred class impacts and observations on post level period experience variation. The attendees and presenters will then brainstorm how to develop solutions and seek opportunities based on the findings presented. SUMMARY BIOGRAPHY Russell Pang is an Actuarial Associate on the Biometrics Research team at Munich Re based in New York City. Russell works on experience studies to analyse mortality and persistency trends in the U.S. and Canada, as well as support Individual Life Pricing in reviewing and assessing mortality risk. Before joining Munich Re in September, Russell worked as an actuarial consultant at Milliman in their financial risk management practice in Chicago. Russell was responsible for implementing hedging strategies for variable annuity (VA) guarantees, financial reporting, and reserving for these blocks of business. Russell holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration, actuarial science and finance from Drake University. Russell is an Associate in the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Anji Li is a Senior Actuarial Associate at Munich Re based in New York City. Anji recently joined the Biometrics Research team where she supports client mortality benchmarking studies and assists with experience studies and pricing support as needed. Prior to joining the Biometrics team in November, Anji worked on the Inforce Management team where she was able to develop a deep understanding of the business, assumptions and actuarial models. Her research and analysis helped Munich Re develop thought leadership on maturity extension riders and she even co-authored an article for the SOA, highlighting the industry’s exposure in this area. Anji graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Applied Statistics. Anji is an Associate in the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
