SESSION DETAILS / WHAT ATTENDEES WILL LEARN

Participants in this session will work through a hypothetical insurance company 'case study' and interactive role-play activities to gain a better understanding of the importance of model risk governance. This presentation will be split into two separate sessions. The first half of the session will focus on what could go wrong in the absence of sound model risk governance practices and introduce a model risk management framework for insurers. The second half will focus on model validation techniques and tailored approaches for insurers.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Actuaries and risk professionals of all levels.

SUMMARY BIOGRAPHY

David Paul is an Executive Director at Ernst&Young. In 2015 David moved to New York in EY’s Insurance Risk Management practice where he assists companies in their Enterprise Risk Management.  David’s projects involve processes, governance and he specializes in capital model design, build, review and validation.   From 2008 to 2014, David worked in EY’s London team, with a major focus on assisting his clients with their readiness for European Solvency II – across internal models, ‘standard formula’, balance sheet restatement and group solvency regulation. David holds Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Mathematics & Statistics from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. David is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (FIA) in the UK, Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) in Ireland, Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
 
Dwayne Husbands is a Manager in the Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP’s Financial Services Office.  He is based in the firm’s New York Office.  Dwayne has over 10 years of experience with Ernst & Young serving insurance and financial services clients.  His skill set includes risk management, forecasting/stress testing, financial reporting, ALM, Actuarial Transformation, merger & acquisitions.  Dwayne holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in Actuarial Science - Finance Option from University of Waterloo, Canada. Dwayne is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
