Jeremy J. Brown, FSA, MAAA, EA, CLU, ChFC | SOA President

Jeremy J. Brown is the president of the Society of Actuaries. He retired from Mutual of America Life Insurance Company in April 2015, after serving as executive vice president and chief actuary from 1997–2015. He had previously worked for State Mutual from 1976–1994 and was a consulting actuary in the Milliman Boston office from 1994–1997.
Mr. Brown has been an SOA education volunteer since becoming a fellow in 1980. His volunteer experience included numerous exam and educational taskforce committees.

Bob Beuerlein, FSA, MAAA, FCA, CERA | President of the American Academy of Actuaries

Bob Beuerlein, a consulting actuary based in The Villages, Fla., has more than 35 years of experience as an actuary, and has served as the Academy’s president since Nov. 3, 2016. He has a long record of Academy service, including prior service on the Board of Directors, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Joint Committee on IAA Coordination, the Council on Professionalism, with the Life & Health Qualifications Seminar, and on the Committee on Life Insurance Financial Reporting. He has also served on the Actuarial Standards Board’s Life Committee and is a past president of the Society of Actuaries.

Brian O'neill, CERA, CFA, FSA, MAAA | Deloitte

Brian is a Senior Manager in the actuarial practice at Deloitte.  He has over 17 years of actuarial experience, and has spent the majority of that time focusing on life insurance capital and risk management endeavors.  This has included working with both direct insurers and reinsurers to evaluate, negotiate, stress test, and optimize value (via selection of most profitable policies in a block) of several complex reinsurance and hybrid reinsurance transactions with multiple counterparties and stakeholders.  He has evaluated various forms of reinsurance, including YRT, Stop Loss, Coinsurance with Funds Withheld, and Modified Coinsurance (ModCo).  Additionally, Brian has structured and analyzed complex reinsurance transactions in the Pension Risk Transfer (PRT) space, including stop loss analysis, recapture analysis, and separate account analysis.  Brian has also worked extensively informing M&A due diligence with robust evaluation of reinsurance counterparty risk.  Brian holds several actuarial and financial designations, including a CERA, CFA, EA (currently inactive), FSA, MAAA.

Olivia Yang, CERA, FSA, MAAA | Oliver Wyman

Olivia Yang is a Senior Consultant with the Actuarial Practice of Oliver Wyman and is based in Philadelphia.
Olivia has worked in the actuarial field for over 15 years. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Olivia was a Pricing Actuary at Canada Life Reinsurance with a focus on financial and structured reinsurance (e.g., regulatory XXX and AXXX deals).
Olivia is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.

Youn Kim, ASA, ACIA, CERA | KPMG

Youn Kim is a Senior Associate in KPMG’s Actuarial Advisory practice. She has more than seven years of experience working in various actuarial positions with life re/insurance companies including roles in valuation, pricing and model building. Lately she has focused mainly on model conversion projects which consists of modeling and reconciling reserve calculation; building new valuation processes and controls; and enhancing data quality. Youn also has experience in financial reporting, experience studies, model validation and pricing for various insurance products. 

Benjamin Farnsworth, FSA, MAAA, CERA | KPMG

Ben Farnsworth is a manager in KPMG’s Actuarial and Insurance Risk practice with over 15 years of insurance industry experience. Prior to joining KPMG he held various actuarial positions with life insurance companies across several functions. Ben’s experiences include business analytics, pricing, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, and financial modeling across multiple product lines (Group Benefits, Long Term Care, Annuities, and Life Insurance).
Ben is a graduate of Alfred University with Bachelor of Art in Mathematics and Economics. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, CFA charter holder, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.

Rena Kuliyeva, FSA | KPMG

Rena is a Senior Associate in KPMG’s Advisory Services Practice, based out of the Chicago office. She has over eight years of life insurance experience and focuses on valuation, financial reporting, assumption setting, and taxation. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. 

Nate Pohle, FSA, MAAA, CERA | Deloitte

Nate Pohle, FSA, CERA, MAAA, MBA, is a Manager at Deloitte Consulting with experience in the life insurance and sports industries. At Deloitte, Nate has focused on the strategic applications of advanced analytics at life insurance companies.
Nate is passionate about sports and finding innovative ways to apply data/analytics to improve business strategy and operations, fitness/nutrition and the overall sports experience. Nate has worked at the National Football League (NFL) and for several sports teams/organizations, including the Chicago White Sox, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Northwestern Athletic Department.
Nate graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Actuarial Science and Risk Management and Insurance. Nate has his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.

Andrew Webster, ASA, MAAA | Validate Health

Andrew has a decade of healthcare software and actuarial experience having previously worked at Epic, the largest supplier of electronic medical records, Willis Towers Watson and Presence Health, a large hospital system in Illinois.  In 2014, he became an entrepreneur and insurance broker when he founded Validate Health, a non-traditional data-driven combined clinical and actuarial consulting firm. Andrew is a proud member of the Chicago health care technology incubator MATTER which houses over 150 technology startups in digital health, medical devices, biotechnology and life sciences.  For the past three years Andrew has volunteered for the Chicago Actuarial Association as website designer and predictive analytics track organizer. Andrew is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Laura Boylan, FSA, CERA | Haven Life

Laura McKiernan Boylan is the Product Owner for Algorithmic Underwriting at Haven Life.  She focuses on streamlining the life underwriting process to improve customer experience.  She started her actuarial career at AXA US rotating through the Actuarial Development Program and working in the Strategic Initiatives Group and Life Insights.  She studied Applied Mathematics at Harvard University.

Caroline Zhang, FSA, CERA, MAAA, CFA | Prudential

Caroline Zhang, FSA, CERA, MAAA, CFA is a Vice President for Prudential Financial, responsible for Model Governance and Control for their Individual Life Business. She has held various roles within Prudential including Capital Management and Financial Strategy for Life Business and Pricing for Retirement Products.  Prior to join Prudential, Caroline worked on Asset Liability Management and Risk Management for various business lines at The Hartford Insurance Company and Pension Consulting at Transamerica.  Caroline earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from China and a Master’s degree in Economics from Tufts University.

Cherie Coffey | Prudential

Cherie Coffey is a Vice President in Prudential where she is responsible for the governance and administration of Prudential’s Actuarial Model Governance framework. Cherie leads a team focused on defining, training and executing the model governance procedures for actuarial models.  Prior to Prudential, Cherie worked in a variety of roles for a large property and casualty insurer in the Midwest.

Darryl Wagner, FSA, MAAA | Deloitte

Darryl is a Principal in the Hartford office of Deloitte Consulting and leads Deloitte's Global Actuarial, Rewards & Analytics (ARA) practice and the US ARA Insurance Services practice.  He also serves as Lead Consulting Principal for MetLife.   Over his 25+ year consulting career, Darryl's areas of specialty include life insurer financial reporting and performance/value measurement and management.  He has worked with numerous accounting and valuation frameworks with clients around the world, helping with technical, process oriented and organizational aspects of implementation, execution, and evaluation.  Darryl is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and  a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Hui Shan, FSA, MAAA | Deloitte

Hui has been with Deloitte Consulting for about 12 years and has been actively involved in assisting major US insurance companies with reviewing and developing financial reporting valuation models for life insurance and annuity products. Hui also has extensive experience in the risk management area such as development of economic capital models, review of risk analytics for variable annuity products, and optimization of performance measurement based on embedded value. In addition, Hui has recently been involved in assisting major insurance companies in evaluating Solvency II technical provisions, implementing and validating Embedded Value and IFRS reporting.

Linda Chow, FSA, MAAA | EY

Linda Chow is a Senior Manager in the Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services practice of Ernst & Young LLP.  Linda has over 14 years of experience in the insurance industry.   Prior to joining EY, Linda worked at a major actuarial consulting company with a focus on Long-Term Care (LTC), Combination product and Medicaid.   Prior to the Consulting company, Linda worked at an insurance company with a focus on Group LTD, Group STD, Group Life and Waiver.   Linda's skill sets includes product management, pricing, actuarial modeling, experience analyses, inforce management, risk management and assurance methods.

Jillian McCoy FSA, MAAA | New York Life

Jill McCoy is a Director and Actuary at New York Life. She has more than seven years of experience working in various actuarial positions with life insurance companies and consulting firms. She has experience in pricing and financial reporting, with a heavy emphasis on LTC products. Currently, she is part of New York Life's pricing team working on the UL product line.

Tim Johnson FSA, MAAA | EY

Tim Johnson is a Senior Actuary within EY’s Actuarial practice. He has four years of experience working in both consulting and at a major life insurer focusing in model development and validation, financial reporting, and reinsurance. He has two years of experience in the LTC space related to model conversion, experience studies, and rate increases. He also has experience in multiple actuarial software platforms in both a model development and validation capacity. Currently he is focused on platform conversion and model design within EY’s financial modeling practice.
