Carter Khalequzzaman, ASA, CERA | Haven Life
          Evan Besser | Haven Life

No matter which part of insurance you find your day job in, you probably feel the utilization of modern technology is behind the curve compared to other industries. Let's discuss the state of where technology lies today, how insurance companies stack up, and where actuaries can play a role in closing the gap.

  • Real World and Risk Neutral ESG Validation

Ricky Power, FSA, FIA, CERA | Moody’s Analytics
          Alasdair Johnston | Moody’s Analytics

    Robert Humphreys, FSA | PwC
Jeff Mulholland, FSA, MAAA | PwC

4:15 - 5:30 pm:  Breakout Session 2

  • Filling the Coverage Gap - Insurance for On-Demand Services
          Khanh Luu | AIG
Jim Weiss, FCAS, MAAA, CPCU | ISO

Heading into 2019 on-demand services have become more prominent in our life due to the convenience of the products and the increasing trust from customers participating sharing economy activities. We have spoken to many ride-sharing drivers who have been having difficulty navigating a patchwork of personal and commercial policies simply to drive for ridesharing companies, which points to a convenience gap in the marketplace. This perceived gap does not begin or end with ridesharing. Modern life’s underinsured moments range from ridesharing to flying a drone to boarding an airline to crossing the street walking a dog. Coverage innovations such as insurance-on-demand (IOD) are rising to the challenge and helping address emerging coverage needs.

  • Data and Automation: Where we are and where we could be
Nelson Lum, FSA, ACIA, MAAA | KPMG
Kaushal Balanadu, FSA, CERA | KPMG

This session discusses how the process around actuarial reporting has historically been dictated and set to meet various reporting requirements without consideration for efficiency or integration. However, recently companies are beginning to build out a holistic end-to-end solution around reporting by taking a closer look at their data and also exploring analytics and technological capabilities.

  • PBR: Is it almost 2019 already?!? How ready are you for PBR?
Benjamin Farnsworth, FSA, MAAA, CERA | KPMG
Reanna Nicholsen, FSA, MAA | New York Life

It is hard to believe that we are more than halfway through the phase-in period for life principle-based reserves (PBR). We are all learning that it is not just calculation of the reserves that is new and challenging to prepare for. The infrastructure, documentation and reporting needs are perhaps even more significant than first anticipated. The responsibilities across the organization will need to be defined to ensure requirements are met. The presenters will also provide insights to how the PBR implementation is going from various perspectives.

  • Assumptions Development: Hybrid between Traditional Methods and Advanced Techniques

Leonid Shteyman, FSA, MAA, CFA| Prudential
Julia Romero, FSA, CERA | Haven Life
          Eric Budde | Munich Re

Improved technology and more data has lead to increasingly advanced methods of fitting data and making predictions. The session will establish general principles of assumption development, and explore scenarios where advanced techniques would potentially help insurance assumption setting as well as many important situations where they would not. The second part of this session will focus on the application of agent-based modeling (ABM). This session isn’t technical and is suited for everyone.
